Small Creatures, Big Ideas: Using Insects to Address Next Generation Science Standards

Use insects and spiders to address the new Next Generation Science Standards! Come explore the research—and behind-the-scenes collection areas—with Collections Assistant Jim Louderman, “the man who mistook his tarantula for a hat.” Then work with a Field Museum educator to learn how to share the wonder of “bug science” with your students, with a focus on the practices, crosscutting concepts and core ideas of NGSS.

Both of these sessions are designed for teachers/school specialists/administrators at all grade levels; great for both teachers who are new to the Harris Learning Collection or returning members. Feel free to share this invitation with your colleagues!

Field Ambassadors

The Field Ambassador program is a professional learning community through which Chicago-area educators receive on-going professional development on the Museum’s resources—our exhibitions, collections, educational programs—and best practices in using museums to support student learning. In return, Field Ambassadors serve as liaisons between the Museum and their school community by sharing our resources with colleagues and keeping us abreast of the changing needs of the educator-audience.
