Maps: Finding Our Place in the World Lecture Series
Chart an extraordinary journey through culture and technology! Explore the world of maps in this lecture series presented by The Field Museum and the Newberry Library. This six-part series will feature presenters from all disciplines--including artists, historians, cartographers and anthropologists.

Kraft Story Time
Take a seat in the Crown Family PlayLab to hear a story and make an art project to take home--all in 20 minutes! Featured titles in November will include Winnie the Pooh and the 100 Acre Woods by Ernest Shepard, Me on the Map by Joan Shepard, My Map Book by Sara Fanelli, and Mapping Penny's World by Loreen Leedy.

Map It!
Calling all explorers! Learn mapping skills by navigating your way through the "known world" of The Field Museum; then set off on an adventure into the unknown! Create a map to take home of what you find along the way. For families with children 6-12 years old.
Map It! kits are available for pick-up at the Crown Family PlayLab from 10am-3pm.

Illinois State Symbol Scavenger Hunt
The Land of Lincoln. You may know the Illinois state slogan, but can you find other state symbols in our exhibitions? Did you know Illinois has a state prairie grass? This scavenger hunt will give you clues and have you seeking emblems of the Prairie State on display in museum exhibits.
The Illinois State Symbol Scavenger Hunt is available on-line at http://archive.fieldmuseum.org/exhibits/tours_permexhib.htm and on-site at the following three interpretive stations: Horns and Antlers, Terrific Teeth, Owl Pellets.

FAMILY WORKSHOPS
Two of Us
Maps to treasure! Join us in this four-week excursion through the wonders of The Field Museum's Crown Family PlayLab! Pirates were not the only ones who made and followed maps. Come learn about the many different styles of map-making throughout the history of the world. You and your little one will travel the Museum's exhibition halls, sing songs, hear stories, touch objects, and make art projects.
For each 3-5 year old child with paid attendance, one parent or adult chaperone can attend for free. Ideal for homeschoolers!

Cartography for Kids
