Specimen number: FMNH ME 2342

Specimen mass: 108.53 gram

Fifty thousand years ago, an iron meteorite weighing hundreds of thousands of tons smashed into what is now the Arizona desert. It formed a crater 3/4 of a mile wide and 600 feet deep. It is one of the best preserved impact structures in the world. Though the original mass was quite large, only about 30 tons have been recovered. The meteorite is classified as a main group iron of the IAB complex.
