Most interesting find of the day: a mouse pierced by the thorn of a small hawthorne tree- perhaps a cache of food from a northern shrike, a bird that winters in the Chicago region and that is known to impale its prey on a sharp projection.
ECCo staff celebrate the coming winter solstice by doing ecological restoration and enjoying the warmth and light of a brushpile burn.
