Field Museum Assists in Shark Fin Soup Research
In a project attempting to uncover the identity of sharks used in the controversial delicacy shark fin soup, Field Museum scientists used CSI-esque research. Scientists were able to do DNA analysis on shark fin soup (even after the fins had been frozen and then cooked!) and found that much of the soup sampled from the United States contained threatened or endangered species of shark.
