Visitors Experience Relationship Between Humans and Horses Firsthand

February 21, 2011--Museum visitors got a special treat during opening weekend of The Horse as they took carriage rides by the Museum's west entrance, in celebration of the new exhibition. Four horses (and drivers) from Noble Horse Theater in Old Town, greeted visitors both young and old alike, as they stepped back in time to the days of horse-drawn carriages. Following the rides, visitors were able to personally thank the horses, by giving them a delicious carrot.

Museumgoers who participated also took the opportunity to see The Horse, the latest Field Museum exhibition (open through Aug. 14). The exhibition explores the amazing animal's evolution, from something no bigger than a dog, to the animal that helped provide transportation, farm prairies, and even win wars. The Horse explores man and horse's complex relationship and ponders the question, "Where would we be without the horse?" To learn more, check out the Horse exhibition website.
