Science on the Half Shell

You’ve seen their shells on the beach.  You’ve eaten them “on the half-shell.”  But what do you really know about bivalve mollusks?  Discover clams, scallops, oysters, mussels, and more, and learn how this interesting group of organisms can do just about everything but fly.  Join an international group of scientists, led by Field Museum’s Curator of Zoology Rüdiger Bieler, as they travel the world in search of more than 300 select living species, and discover how their anatomical and DNA features help us understand the evolution of these amazing animals.  Through video travelogues, cutting edge technology, hands-on interactives, and a large array of specimens, explore the amazing diversity of bivalves and follow the ongoing research that investigates this major branch of the animal Tree of Life.
