Allstate Sponsor Statement

It was the biggest thing to hit Chicago since the Great Fire. The largest tourist attraction in the country, and grandfather to Walt Disney's theme parks. It introduced the world to the Ferris Wheel, chewing gum and the "hootchykootchy". Its exhibits inspired Henry Ford to envision his horseless carriage.

The Chicago World's Fair of 1893 also highlighted the fledgling field of anthropology, and led directly to the founding of The Field Museum. As a lead sponsor of Opening the Vaults: Wonders of the 1893 World's Fair, Allstate is proud to help the Museum re-create the excitement of that event and share treasures from its collection -- some not seen in public since the Fair closed. Specimens, artifacts, media and interactive exhibits will bring to life one of the most spectacular events in the Windy City's history.

Allstate has a long history in Chicago, going back more than 80 years. We have dedicated our good hands to strengthening and improving the places where we live and work. That's why we were lead corporate sponsor for the City of Chicago's Cultural Plan 2012. It's why we support programs in public safety and violence prevention, as well as dozens of organizations from "One Book, One Chicago" to the Bronzeville Children's Museum.

We also are pleased that many students from the Chicago Public Schools, especially those from low-income families, will be able to share this unique look at their city's history.

After seeing the marvels along Chicago's lakefront in 1893, author Hamlin Garland wrote his parents: "Sell the cookstove if necessary and come. You must see the Fair." Now The Field Museum is bringing those wonders back to life, and enthralling visitors once again. Enjoy this extraordinary exhibit.
