What sets The Field Museum apart from most other museums is that we do science. What sets Field Museum science apart from most other research institutions is that we are a museum. The Science & Education Division carries out the kind of science that only a museum can do, through the efforts of three complementary centers: the Collections Center, the Integrative Research Center, and the Science Action Center. Our 25 million-strong collections of biological specimens and cultural artifacts contain the magnificent story of our planet, its life, and its cultures. Our research unlocks the information in these objects, solving mysteries from our past and present. Our action harnesses museum science to create lasting results in conservation, quality of life, and cultural understanding. Together, these centers increase the Museum’s ability to understand the past, explore the present, and shape a future rich with biological and cultural diversity.
