Introduction

Hello Members!

I’d like to start this by introducing myself.  My name is Erica Osterloo and I recently moved into Membership here at the Field Museum.  Some of you I have already met through email or over the phone, but I’m looking forward to meeting more of you when you visit the museum.  I’ve recently been given charge of this blog, this wide-open space to create a reliable place you can get the most up to date information about your membership and the museum.  However, I’d like to take things a little further.  I will continue to post your news; new exhibits, events, and relevant stories, but I will also be writing about what an amazing place we all have access to.

We throw around a lot of words around here: “rare,” “exceptional,” “once-in-a-lifetime,” to the point that they start to lose meaning.  Think about it for just a minute.  The Caves of Lascaux are closed.  Shut off to the public.  You could fly all the way to France and not see them. This upcoming exhibit, Scenes from the Stone Age, is truly “once-in-a-lifetime,” but you know all of this.  That’s why you became members.

We have our big Members’ Night event coming in April, and I know you are going to run around all night and try to see everything.  I know this, because that’s what I do every year.  In the next few weeks, I am going to be blogging about some of the activities we will have at Members’ Night.  Some weeks I will focus on the popular activities that you probably are already excited about (like the Mammal Prep Lab), but some weeks I hope to give you a glimpse of the little hidden gems that don’t get as much attention.  My hope is that having a little background information will give you more depth to what you see.  I hope you will follow this blog for the next few weeks to see what we have planned for Members’ Nights.

As I am writing this blog, I want to give you the most relevant information possible, so let me know what that is.  If there is something you want to know about or a direction you want this blog to go, comment.  I will do my best to make this space for you.

Best regards,
Erica Osterloo, Member Benefits Assistant
