Summary:  The Hermann Strecker Collection is comprised of 83 manuscript boxes (34.5 linear feet), containing letters, envelopes, pamphlets, photographs, drawings, clippings from periodicals, receipts, postcards and tickets. The vast majority of the collection consists of letters he received regarding Lepidoptera. While the papers found in the collection are primarily in English, there are also some French and German documents. The collection contains correspondences from approximately 1500 individuals and corporate entities during the course of over 50 years. The earliest dated document is from January 13, 1850 and most recent document dates to April 7, 1902. The bulk of the correspondence  dates between 1869 and 1901.
