The art installation A Hip Hop Nativity was created and “remixed” by artists James Regalado, Ruben Aguirre, Jr., and Joevanny Durán, and was featured during a 2009 Chicago event called Posadas en Pilsen.
This one-piece nativity scene reinterprets the idea of the Tree of Life, a symbol in Mexico with both Indigenous and Spanish roots. The piece is made of painted clay, and was created by artist Josefina Aguilar in Oaxaca.
This nativity scene from Yucatán, Mexico, was fashioned from clay using figurine molds—a ceramic technique that dates back to the Aztecs. One of the angels plays a jarana, a traditional Mexican instrument adapted from Spanish guitars. Both angels are dressed in clothing native to Yucatán.
