High School Internship
Program information: The Field Museum Women in Science High School Internship is a 4-week long internship from July 1, 2013 – Aug 1 2013. Please be aware that this internship is full-time, 5 days per week, 8:30am to 4:30pm (unless otherwise arranged with the supervisor). Applicants must be a Chicagoland or Northwest Indiana resident. Applicants must be 16 years old by July 1, 2013.
2013 Project Description: The Women in Science High School Internship will be hosted in The Field Museum's bird collection. The intern will be introduced to all aspects of bird collection management. They will learn how to prepare bird specimens and gain experience in collection organization, databasing, and research. The intern will work with a dedicated collection staff member and receive training in various aspects of collections-based research. An invitation will be extended to attend intern-specific events as well as tours of different departments at the Field Museum. Students who have an interest in natural history museums, collections, or biology/ornithology are encouraged to apply and should be detail oriented and comfortable handling museum specimens.
