Field Museum to Host Jurassic World: The Exhibition
CHICAGO – March 23, 2017 – Based on one of the biggest blockbusters in cinema history, Jurassic World: The Exhibition is set to open its gates at the acclaimed Field Museum in Chicago, home to one of the best dinosaur fossil collections in the world, on May 26, 2017. The Exhibition immerses audiences of all ages in settings inspired by the groundbreaking film franchise, Jurassic World, blending real-world science and education with the very best in high-quality entertainment. This summer, not only will visitors be able to see real dinosaur fossils at The Field Museum, they’ll be able to imagine what it would have been like to walk among these breathtaking animals.
Produced in conjunction with Universal Brand Development and Imagine Exhibitions and co-produced by MagicSpace and IES, the lifelike animatronic dinosaurs were designed by The Creature Technology Company (Walking with Dinosaurs). The larger-than-life Exhibition made its world premiere in Melbourne, Australia and marked its U.S. debut at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, shattering attendance records at both venues.
Featuring the closest simulation of dinosaurs ever created, the Exhibition was developed in close collaboration with renowned paleontologist Jack Horner, who served as the Paleontological Advisor on the Jurassic World films. The Exhibition is infused with interactive educational elements—drawn from the real-world science of dinosaur DNA that allowed Jurassic World to come to life. Visitors will travel to Isla Nublar as VIP guests to explore a towering Brachiosaurus; come face-to-face with a Velociraptor; and get a rare up-close look at the most vicious dinosaur of them all, Tyrannosaurus rex. To accommodate the massive size of the dinosaurs, the Field Museum is erecting a 16,000 square foot exhibition tent on the front lawn of the museum—a first-of-its-kind structure for the museum.
“Jurassic World: The Exhibition is an immersive and educational experience like no other, and the response from fans has been tremendous, with the first two tour stops setting attendance records,” said Carol Nygren, Vice President, Worldwide Live Entertainment, Universal Brand Development. “The Field Museum is world-renowned for its dinosaur collection and research, and we’re excited to bring the Exhibition to Chicago as part of our global tour.”
“The goal from the beginning of this project was to transport people to Jurassic World through our experience, not just walk by and see it, but to truly feel like they are there, in the park and… we did it,” said Tom Zaller, President & CEO of Imagine Exhibitions. “I am proud that our team at Imagine Exhibitions is fortunate enough to be a part of this next chapter in the Jurassic World franchise.”
“One of our goals as a museum is to provide visitors with the best dinosaur experience in the world,” says Field Museum President Richard Lariviere. “Our fossil collections are one of the greatest things about The Field Museum, and the Jurassic World dinosaurs are an incredible way to spark our imaginations about them. After seeing an animatronic T. rex, you can come inside, see SUE, and picture what an incredible animal she must have been in life.”
Guests will walk through the world-famous Jurassic World gates to get up close to the towering dinosaurs, some more than 24 feet tall, and explore the Park through a specially guided tour. Once onsite, visitors will experience the family-friendly Gentle Giants Petting Zoo; step behind the glass into The Hammond Creation Lab; get a special preview of Jurassic World’s top-secret project, the Indominus rex; and go inside the Raptor Training Paddock.
Jurassic World: The Exhibition will be open seven days a week from 9am-5pm, with additional evening hours yet to be announced. Ticket prices will be $20 for children (ages 3–11) and $25 for adults for evening entry (5–9pm), and $10 for children and $15 for adults for daytime entry (9am–5pm), in addition to general museum admission. Jurassic World: The Exhibition will run from May 26, 2017 to January 7, 2018. Stay tuned for ticket sales information.
