I am a molecular biologist with broad research interests that span a wide spectrum of organisms. Using state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques, I delve into the genetic and molecular signatures that shape the unique characteristics of diverse organisms. I combine fieldwork and laboratory investigations, bridging the gaps between ecology, evolution, and molecular biology to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between organisms and their environments.

My research projects has taken me across diverse ecosystems from the urban landscapes of Chicago to the uber diverse Amazon rainforest. While my research primarily focuses on birds, my curiosity has led me to study sharks, mammals, fish, insects, plants, lichens, and even microalgae. Basically, if it has DNA and an interesting question, I’m game.

I am also passionate about providing research opportunities to Latin American students, which has been inspired by my experiences living in Peru and familial connections in Iquitos, Peru. By actively involving students in my research projects, I strive to foster scientific curiosity and empower students to become future leaders in the field.

Finally, I am member of the Chicago Peregrine Program that monitors Illinois’ peregrine falcon population and conducts scientific research and public education. If you never knew the skyscrapers of Chicago were home to the world’s fastest animal, check us out.
