About this event
Join us for a day of arctic adventures and dinosaur expeditions as the Field celebrates the 75th anniversary of the National Science Foundation!
Meet scientists spearheading research on the most remote continent on Earth, explore extreme weather gear used by scientists in Antarctica, and watch movie screenings of Dinosaurs of Antarctica 3D for free!
Movie Screenings
Dinosaurs of Antarctica 3D tells the story of a changing environment at the bottom of the world where dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures once roamed freely in a lush landscape. As the climate changes again today, melting Antarctic ice is allowing discovery of the continent’s history—including the fossils of new dinosaurs. Limited tickets will be available onsite for free screenings of Dinosaurs of Antarctica; advance ticket registration is not available.
- Dinosaurs of Antarctica will be shown in James Simpson Theatre at 10:30am, 1:15pm, and 3:30pm.
- Greg Neri will lead Q & A sessions only after the 10:30am and 1:15pm showings.
Stay after the movie to take part in exclusive Q & A sessions with Greg Neri, award-winning author of My Antarctica: True Adventures in the Land of Mummified Seals, Space Robots, and So Much More. In 2017, G. Neri was awarded the first of two National Science Foundation grants that sent him to Antarctica. He is currently co-chair of the Antarctic Artists and Writers Collective, and in 2023, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from SUNY for his literary and Antarctic outreach.
Stop by the SUE store on the Upper Level of the museum from 11:30am-12:30pm to meet Greg Neri and purchase a signed copy of his book, My Antarctica. The book follows the character Printz and G. Neri to the end of the world in a captivating travel memoir that explores Antarctica through the curiosity and wonder of his inner child—the kid who dreamed of one day becoming an explorer.
Collection Tables
View rarely seen items from the Field’s collections and meet scientists leading research in Antarctica and across the globe. See collections from Antarctica including dinosaurs, birds, fossil plants, Arctic cultures, and more!
Grainger Science Hub
Check out gear worn by scientists leading research in Antarctica and see what it takes to endure the extreme weather on one of the most remote places on Earth.
While in the Hub, explore A Fossil Bonebed Mystery, an exhibit highlighting an NSF funded research project featuring scientists searching for clues as to what happened to a group of Dicynodonts in Tanzania over 240 million years ago.
