Press Release

February 14, 2022Exhibition

Chicago-area students will get an exclusive first look at the Field Museum’s new exhibition Jurassic Oceans: Monsters of the Deep through a partnership with the Field, the British Consulate, and the Natural History Museum in London as the show makes its first appearance in the U.S.

Jurassic Oceans: Monsters of the Deep takes visitors on an underwater journey to encounter some of the fascinating, fierce, and strange creatures that dominated Earth’s Jurassic seas while dinosaurs ruled the land. It opens to the public on Feb. 25.

Students involved with the Big Shoulders Fund, My Block My Hood My City, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award International USA, will get a preview of the exhibition on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. Press is invited to attend to preview the exhibit as well. Though this is an open-house style press event, President and CEO Julian Siggers and British Consul General Alan Gogbashian will give brief welcome remarks shortly after 10 a.m.

“The British Consulate is delighted to support the US debut of the Natural History Museum’s ‘Jurassic Oceans’ at the Field Museum,” said British Consul General Alan Gogbashian. “And we’re thrilled to partner with some of Chicago’s amazing community organizations – Big Shoulders Fund, Duke of Edinburgh International Award USA, and My Block, My City, My Hood – to give local youth the city’s first look at this really unique exhibit from the UK. There’s nothing else like it in the country, so we hope Chicago takes full advantage while it’s here!”

Jurassic Oceans features over 100 fossils and models ranging from giant marine reptiles that looked like real-life versions of the Loch Ness Monster to small, strange starfish cousins called sea lilies. Visitors will come face-to-face with marine predators and other friendly marine life of the Jurassic seas through real fossils and CGI projections.

Jurassic Oceans: Monsters of the Deep will be presented with bilingual text in English and Spanish and will run until September 5.
