The Roots & Routes Initiative & Youth Conservation Action lead the Chicago Green Ambassadors Summer Program, a paid internship program to increase the resilience of our neighborhoods and green spaces.
We seek motivated students (ages 15-22) from the neighborhoods of Chinatown, Bronzeville, Little Village, Pilsen and surrounding communities with an interest in helping their communities connect to the south lakefront from McCormick Place to 47th Street (this stretch of natural area is referred to as the Burnham Wildlife Corridor) through real-world environmental and community issues.
Participants create pathways and bonds among these neighborhoods and southside natural areas while also helping to empower community groups. They are becoming stewards not only of nature in their community but champions of a process of neighborhood renewal.
The Roots & Routes Initiative & Youth Conservation Action are part of the Keller Science Action Center at The Field Museum.
