Native American Heritage Month

Each November, celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the Field Museum.

November is Native American Heritage Month. Join us in celebrating the diversity of values, traditions, and languages that make up the rich cultures of Native American communities this month and all year long.

Events and programming

We commemorate Native American Heritage Month at the museum with programming for all. Staff members and guest speakers share presentations about the objects and issues at the heart of Native histories and contemporary experiences.

Dave Spencer and the Oka Homma Singers

Join us in Stanley Field Hall on November 8 for a blessing prayer and a traditional song, followed by a hand drum and song performance.

Indigenous Astronomy as told by the Haudenosaunee

On November 16, Samantha Doxtator, Haudenosaunee from Oneida Nation of the Thames and Wolf Clan, will take you on an introspective journey through Haudenosaunee Cosmology. From creation to current innovations, perseverance, restoration, the cycles of birth and death, and how they all correlate with the stars. Experience your own connections to grief and healing, compassion, resilience, and peace.

This event is at capacity. We are no longer accepting registrations.

Meet a Scientist

Join us Nov 6 as the Field Museum's North American Anthropology Early Career Fellows Jada Whiterock and Jasmine Eleck as they discuss Kimberly LaRonge's strap dress, "Our Grandmother's Dress."

PlayLab PlayDate

On Nov 13, join us in the Crown Family PlayLab for a story time for 2-6 year olds! In this interactive storytime session, guest readers from CPL will read stories honoring Native American history, culture and identities.
