    Native Lilies

    Most of us are familiar with the ubiquitous day lily (Hemerocallis fulva), the all-too-common inhabitant of home gardens, parking lot planters, and roadsides. Here we see its graceful cousin, the native Michigan lily (Lilium michiganense), as photographed on a recent ECCo field trip to the Calumet Region.

Here we see its graceful cousin, the native Michigan lily (Lilium michiganense), as photographed on a recent ECCo field trip to the Calumet Region.  

    Michigan lilies are found in prairies, moist woodlands, and thickets at prairie edges across the Midwest and Great Lakes states.  They bloom from late June through late July.
