Our Mission: A Commitment to Earth's Future

We’ve spent 125 years making discoveries across 4.6 billion years of Earth’s history—and we’re just getting started.

Much like the natural world around us, the Field Museum is constantly evolving. In 2018—our anniversary year—we’re renewing our dedication to science and Earth’s future.

Our brand embodies the forward-thinking scientific leader we’ve always been and the work we do every day. Fighting climate change. Preserving biodiversity. Celebrating cultures. Championing science and taking action.

The Field Museum's Mission: A Commitment to Earth

Our brand goes beyond how we look; it reinforces the Field Museum’s mission to fuel a journey of discovery, enabling solutions for a brighter future rich in nature and culture. Our work continues with as much passion as it did when we welcomed the Museum’s first visitors. Since then, our collection has grown to nearly 40 million artifacts and specimens. Our 150 scientists have traveled to every continent and ocean on the planet. We’ve explored questions from our own backyard—how do we protect the monarch butterfly’s habitat?—to the beginning of our Solar System—what can a meteorite reveal about the time before Earth formed?

The square shape and bold lettering of our logo represent the impact of our scientific work, and the shade of blue draws inspiration from the sky, the oceans, and our Earth. A smaller inset square represents the small proportion of what’s on display in the context of our vast collections and crucial work behind the scenes.

We’re grateful for your support of science—as museum visitors, dedicated volunteers, budding scientists, and lifelong learners.

Join us as we continue working to explore and conserve our planet. After all, we’re on it together.

Earth. We’re on it.
