A Message to Our Members

An investigation into missing cash is currently underway. The theft occurred years ago, and we have already been fully reimbursed through our insurance.

The theft was discovered in early 2014 during a restructuring of long-standing Museum departments and an internal review of finances. The Museum acted swiftly, conducting an internal investigation and terminating the employee involved. We also notified authorities and are working closely to assist in their investigation. No public funds or private donations were involved, and no memberships were impacted.

The Museum is fully insured and has been reimbursed for the stolen cash, which was just over $900,000 over a seven-year period. We have also been reimbursed for costs associated with the investigation. In addition, changes have been made to our cash handling process and stringent controls are in place to safeguard all of our funds and protect against criminal activity.
