Pride Month

Frank Robb&mdash;widely known as &ldquo;Alligator Robb&rdquo;&mdash;is a renowned wildlife and crocodilian expert from Florida&rsquo;s Space Coast. He serves as President of Environmental Education Awareness Research Support and Services (<a href="http://eearss.org/">EEARSS.ORG</a>&nbsp;), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that champions environmental education, biodiversity studies, and cutting-edge cancer research focused on environmental toxicology. He is best known in Chicago for safely capturing &ldquo;Chance the Snapper,&rdquo; the alligator that made national headlines after appearing in a Humboldt Park lagoon.
Come meet Frank and learn how, in partnership with the Wise Laboratory of Environmental and Genetic Toxicology at the University of Louisville, he is conducting field research along Florida&rsquo;s Space Coast, capturing and testing alligators to assess how environmental exposures are impacting both animal and human health.

Ngarino Ellis (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou) is a professor of art history at Waipapa Taumata Rau The University of Auckland. She is the author of &lsquo;A Whakapapa of Tradition: One Hundred Years of Ngāti Porou Carving 1830-1930&rsquo; and co-editor of &lsquo;Te Puna. Maori Art from Te Tai Tokerau Northland&rsquo; (with Deidre Brown) and &lsquo;Te Ata. Maori Art from the East Coast, New Zealand&rsquo; (with Witi Ihimaera). Ellis&rsquo;s curatorial projects include exhibitions at the Linden Museum, Stuttgart and Auckland Art Gallery.

<h3>Moderator: Christopher Philipp</h3>

Christopher Philipp is a Collections Manager in the Gantz Family Collections Center at the Field Museum. He is responsible for the care of the Museum's anthropology collections from the Pacific Islands. Philipp has worked and assisted with the African ethnographic, Meso, Central, and South American archaeological and ethnographic, and Southeast Asian collections in the Anthropology Department.

The Women&rsquo;s Board of the Field Museum, founded in 1966, raises funds for Women in Science programs at its annual luncheon celebrating female STEM leadership.

<h2>Keynote</h2>

On May 21, 2025, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome Sera Young, PhD as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.

Dr. Young is a Professor of Anthropology and Global Health at Northwestern University, and she has dedicated her career to understanding how women work to preserve their health and that of their families. Her research focuses on maternal and child undernutrition in the first 1,000 days of life, particularly in low-resource settings.

Notably, Dr. Young led a large team in the development of the first globally equivalent way of measuring water access &ndash; the WISE (Water InSecurity Experiences) Scales. These scales have been used by 100+ organizations in 50+ countries to tackle some of the world&rsquo;s most pressing health challenges.

She has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed publications, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, and National Geographic. Recent accolades include the Margaret Mead Award for her book Craving Earth, an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, and the Norman Kretchmer Memorial Award in Nutrition and Development.

During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the Grainger Science Hub. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection of nearly 40 million objects. From collections care to field work, and dinosaurs to ecology, there&rsquo;s a world of science to explore.

Examine real specimens to observe differences in their shape and size and discover the characteristics that make armadillos unique in relation to other mammals. Join us in person at the Field Museum on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10am-2pm for an engaging professional learning opportunity designed to help educators bring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) narratives into their classrooms. This workshop will explore practical strategies to meet the requirements of the TEAACH Act by incorporating South Asian and Filipino American stories and showing educators how to integrate inquiry-based oral histories into instruction and community spaces.&nbsp;
Gain insights from our community partners Duty to Country, which highlights the legacy of Filipinos and Americans in WWII and their fight for recognition, and South Asian American Policy &amp; Research Institute (SAAPRI), which documents the untold stories of South Asians who immigrated to Illinois between 1945 and 1965. Discover valuable tools to celebrate AANHPI voices year-round and enrich your students' learning experience. Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and elevate AANHPI storytelling in education!
Registration is open to formal and informal educators of all levels. Illinois Educators will earn 4 hours of Professional Development for attending this workshop.
