Conservation is about sustaining the diverse cultures and biological ecosystems that inform us about how life on this Earth evolved. This knowledge may be the only insight we have into what our future will bring, and understanding the cultural histories of human interactions with ecosystems is crucial to the evolution story.
The Field Museum has been involved in conserving cultural heritage since its founding. The Museum's original 1893 collection was, by and large, an anthropology collection, and the conservation of those materials and the preservation of Earth's great cultural heritage sites have been part of our mission since the very beginning. Today, many of our members are interested in our cultural heritage mission as well as our commitment to conserving biodiversity. Visitors continue to enjoy cultural heritage-themed exhibits like The Robert R. McCormick Halls of the Ancient Americas and Inside Ancient Egypt.
